Melody Mitchell was named director of Alumni Events and Public Relations for the College of Law in December 2004 after having served as assistant director since 2001. She began her career in 1996 as an academic counselor for NIU’s M.B.A. Program in the College of Business.
As director, Mitchell works closely with the dean and is responsible for public relations to increase awareness of the College of Law and promote its unique programs to a nationwide audience. This includes the development of promotional and outreach materials, College of Law website and social media communications. She also coordinates all law school alumni relations events, special events and special legal education programs external to the regular curriculum including continuing legal education seminars and law review symposia.
Mitchell is a member of the University Marketing and Communications Council, Presidential Commission on the Status of Minorities and former member of the Presidential Commission on the Status of Women. In 2015, she was honored with the Excellence in Service and Leadership Award at the 12th Annual NIU Law Minority Alumni Reception for her commitment to students and alumni, service to the law school and for building a diverse and caring community. In 2011, she received the Supportive Professional Staff Certificate of Recognition for outstanding service.
