Academics

The Center for the Study of Women, Gender and Sexuality (CSWGS) offers academic programs that, in the analysis of human culture, focus on:

  • Contributions and status of women and LGBTQ+ people.
  • Dynamics of gender roles and sexuality, past and present.
  • Impact of race, ethnicity, age, social class, sexual orientation, ability, and other factors on women's experiences and the experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer+ (LGBTQ+) people.

Our programs emphasize social justice, global awareness, and an appreciation for human diversity, while encouraging critical inquiry, reflection and self-expression.  In our courses, students examine historical and contemporary issues related to gender identity, power, citizenship, and contributions of women and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, both within the U.S. and abroad.
