President BakerBAKER REPORT: Recognizing our collective accomplishments

During the 2013-14 academic year, Northern Illinois University has made significant initial progress on the keystone goal of student career success, and I look forward to continuing to help our wonderfully talented employees and students achieve bold futures. Our shared successes depend on each of us working together--in concert with alumni and community members--to ensure the support needed to achieve our ambitious goals.

Over the past year, there have been many accomplishments of which we should be proud. We’ve expanded the engaged learning opportunities such as internships and mentorships, themed learning communities and study abroad programs that have become hallmarks of an NIU education. Under the tutelage of NIU faculty, staff and alumni mentors, our students earned regional, statewide and national recognition. And we’ve opened new buildings and facilities that further enhance NIU’s living-learning environment.

The NIU Bold Futures 2013-14: A Year in Review report highlights many of these accomplishments in addition to work to date on the broader steps of staffing, cultural transformation, structural reorganization and alignment of university resources so it can effectively make progress on our key goals. I hope that you will take the time to review our collective accomplishments as we move forward in re-envisioning NIU as a model 21st century university.

Together Forward,

Doug
