DeKalb, Ill.--Students and faculty from NIU College of Law joined their peers from across the university on October 11 for the annual “Take Back the Night” event, organized by the Northern Illinois University student-led Women’s Rights Alliance, in partnership with the NIU Women’s Law Caucus,
“Take Back the Night” is an international initiative established to help create safe communities and build respectful relationships. NIU and Northern Law are resolute in their support of the campus-wide event. The program is held each year with the purpose of raising awareness of, and bringing an end to, sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual abuse and all other forms of sexual violence.
Northern Law Dean Eric Dannenmaier and his wife Maria were among the many participants at this year’s event. They joined University President Doug Baker and his wife Dana, along with College of Visual and Performing Arts Dean Paul Kassel. Beginning with a rally held at the Northern Illinois University Martin Luther King Commons, the event entailed a march across campus, a reception, a bonfire and a performance by NIU's all-women's a cappella group the Harmelodics.
“On this night,” relayed Northern Law student and Women’s Law Caucus President Amanda Mueller, “we said no more. No excuses. We will not be silenced. Thank you to those who helped us take back the night!”
