Online catalog upgrade complete

The NIU online catalog, which includes the Law Library's holdings, and the statewide "I-Share" catalog have been upgraded to a new version as of June 16.

New features in searching & requesting:

  • "Subject" and "Author" searches have their own tabs.
  • All "More limits" settings have been moved to the bottom of the "Advanced search" tab.
  • "Format" icons (book, film, etc.) display next to titles on multiple-hit searches.
  • Results screens for multiple hits and single items are cleaner and easier to read.
  • The "request this item" button in the I-Share catalog is now on the right side of the screen instead of at the top/bottom.

New features in "MyAccount:"

  • If a patron is blocked from renewing an item, the reason for the block will now display.
  • Patron personal data is now hidden behind a button instead of displaying at the top of the page.

Features coming soon:

Several features from the previous version of the catalogs are still in the process of being migrated to the new version, but should be available later this summer. These include:

  • Different color schemes for individual library catalogs & the I-Share catalog (right now you can which catalog you are using by the logo in the upper left hand corner).
  • "Text me this call number" feature.
  • "Repeat this search in the I-Share catalog" link if a search in the local catalog produces no results.
  • "Find other available copies in I-Share" link if all copies in the local catalog are unavailable.

If you have any questions about the upgrade, please feel free to contact Sharon Nelson at slnelson@niu.edu or the Law Library Circulation Desk at (815) 753-0507.
