Online catalog upgrade complete
The NIU online catalog, which includes the Law Library's holdings, and the statewide "I-Share" catalog have been upgraded to a new version as of June 16.
New features in searching & requesting:
- "Subject" and "Author" searches have their own tabs.
- All "More limits" settings have been moved to the bottom of the "Advanced search" tab.
- "Format" icons (book, film, etc.) display next to titles on multiple-hit searches.
- Results screens for multiple hits and single items are cleaner and easier to read.
- The "request this item" button in the I-Share catalog is now on the right side of the screen instead of at the top/bottom.
New features in "MyAccount:"
- If a patron is blocked from renewing an item, the reason for the block will now display.
- Patron personal data is now hidden behind a button instead of displaying at the top of the page.
Features coming soon:
Several features from the previous version of the catalogs are still in the process of being migrated to the new version, but should be available later this summer. These include:
Different color schemes for individual library catalogs & the I-Share catalog (right now you can which catalog you are using by the logo in the upper left hand corner).
"Text me this call number" feature.
"Repeat this search in the I-Share catalog" link if a search in the local catalog produces no results.
"Find other available copies in I-Share" link if all copies in the local catalog are unavailable.
If you have any questions about the upgrade, please feel free to contact Sharon Nelson at slnelson@niu.edu or the Law Library Circulation Desk at (815) 753-0507.
