Biography

Lorraine Schmall came to NIU in 1989 from Wake Forest University School of Law where she had been a member of the faculty since 1987. Prior to that she was in the private practice of law in Chicago, a Bigelow Fellow at the University of Chicago Law School, and a visiting assistant professor at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law. She has published a number of articles and books on topics related to feminism, labor, and criminal law; and teaches labor law, ERISA, employment law, criminal law, and a death penalty seminar in which students undertake post-conviction appeals on behalf of condemned Illinois inmates. She is a contributing editor for the ABA/BNA Developing Labor Law hornbook, and a member of the Developing Labor Law Committee of the ABA, the American Law Institute, and the Executive Committee of the American Association of Law Schools Section on Labor and Employment Law.
