Message from the Dean

Dean Jennifer L. Rosato

July 27, 2009

I am very proud to serve as Dean of Northern Illinois University College of Law and join its faculty.  I consider the College of Law one of the jewels of NIU, a university with the ambitious aspirations of a research university and the core values of a public institution--access, diversity, and engagement.

In deciding to come to NIU College of Law, I was most impressed with its close-knit community.  Most importantly, I saw a strong, collective commitment to the success of each student that walks through the doors of Swen Parson Hall, from orientation until after graduation.  All of this has been achieved in no small part because of the unwavering support of the faculty, staff, and alumni. Our distinguished alumni serve in all areas of the public and private sectors, including a significant number in the judiciary.

The College of Law is impressive in so many respects, including

  • one of the most diverse faculties in the country;
  • a distinctive practical skills program; and
  • an outstanding study abroad program in Agen, France.

I look forward to working with the entire community to ensure that the law school shines even brighter in the years to come. I especially look forward to engaging further with the University and the region, and to develop a more national presence for the law school.

I look forward to hearing from you.
