Professor John Walton was featured on a recent episode of Jay Leno's Garage to demonstrate his patented invention of a new universal jack stand. Walton commented that meeting Leno was “the best Spring Break ever.” One point he found interesting was Jay’s comment near the end of the video that it took a law professor to come up with a simple solution to an automotive problem.
To Walton, that is the essence and value of a legal education. “Lawyers solve problems,” he said. “Every business and profession needs problem solvers. That’s why I believe the value of a legal education is not confined to practicing law.” Walton believes the legal training students receive at NIU Law prepares them for law practice and many other careers where people are valued for their ability to create solutions.
The lower tuition burden at NIU College of Law allows graduates a broad spectrum of practice alternatives as well as many emerging entrepreneurial options. Named a “Tuition Winner” in 2012 by prelaw magazine, NIU Law was recognized as one of the top schools in the nation for minimizing tuition inflation.
