Northern Illinois University Law Students Reach Semi-Finals in International Moot Court Competition

DeKalb, Ill. – Third-year NIU Law students, Steve Boldt, Tom Chan, and Dan Kegl advanced to the semi-final round out of 30 law schools at the 28th Annual John Marshall Law School International Moot Court Competition in Information Technology and Privacy Law. The competition was held October 1-3 at the John Marshall Law School in Chicago.
With a strong start, the NIU Law team defeated John Marshall Law School in the first round and Wisconsin Law School in the second round. In the round of 16, the team defeated South Texas, who had received the Best Respondent Brief. In the quarter-final round, the team defeated #1 seed Texas Wesleyan, who had the Best Oralist in the preliminary rounds.
The NIU Law team was narrowly defeated in the semi-found round by Stetson, who eventually won the competition. The team also finished with the Second Best Brief overall and was awarded the silver bowl. The team was coached by Associate Dean Lenny Mandell and assisted by Professor Robert Jones, Legal Writing Instructors Jeanna Hunter, Elsa Miller, and Meredith Stange, and a number of alumni.
