West Palm Beach Attorney Michael Salnick Receives 2007 Outstanding Service Award From Northern Illinois University College of Law

February 20, 2007

DeKalb, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University College of Law is proud to announce that Michael Salnick of West Palm Beach, Fla., is a 2007 recipient of its Outstanding Service Award. Salnick is a 1978 graduate of NIU Law.

The award specifically recognizes Salnick’s generous and continued support of NIU Law students. NIU Law Dean LeRoy Pernell presented Salnick with the award on February 9 at the NIU Law Florida Reception held during the American Bar Association’s Mid-Year Meeting in Miami.
In 2005, Salnick established the Michael Salnick Criminal Defense Award, an annual scholarship for NIU Law students interested in his area of practice. And like Salnick, recipients also need to show great potential to succeed that may not be recognized by conventional academic standards. One scholarship is awarded each year to a student meeting Salnick’s criteria.

As Salnick explained, “I know there are students with the same aspirations and dreams as I had, who for one reason or another, fall short on traditional criteria for getting into law school, but otherwise demonstrate outstanding promise for a prosperous legal career. This scholarship is my small way of saying ‘thank you’ to a school that gave me a chance.”

After earning his law degree, Salnick relocated to Florida and spent two years at the Palm Beach County Public Defenders’ Office. Since 1981, Salnick has been a partner at the Law Offices of Salnick, Fuchs, & Bertisch, P.A. in West Palm Beach, where he concentrates his practice on state and federal criminal trial defense including capital cases, appellate and post conviction matters.
