NIU College of Law Announces Speaker for 2003 Riley Lecture on Professionalism

DeKalb-Northern Illinois University College of Law Dean LeRoy Pernell announces that the Honorable Thomas L. Kilbride, Justice of the Supreme Court of Illinois, Third District, will present the 2003 Francis X. Riley Lecture on Professionalism.  Justice Kilbride will be the tenth speaker for the annual lecture series.  The Lecture will be given on Friday, April 4, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. in the Francis X. Riley Courtroom at the College of Law in DeKalb.

Justice Kilbride received a B.A. degree magna cum laude from St. Mary's College in Winona, Minnesota in 1978 and a Juris Doctor degree from Antioch School of Law in Washington, D.C. in 1981.

Justice Kilbride practiced law in Rock Island for twenty years, engaging in general civil and criminal matters; he was admitted to practice in both the United States District Court of Central Illinois and the United States Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and elected to the Supreme Court of Illinois for the Third District in 2000.

The Francis X. Riley Lecture on Professionalism was established in 1994 to honor Professor emeritus Riley, who has devoted his life to the law and legal education.  The lecture series brings distinguished speakers to the Northern Illinois University College of Law to discuss current issues relating to the legal profession.

Past Riley Lecturers are the Honorable Marvin E. Aspen (1994), George E. Bushnell, Jr. (1995), the Honorable Abner J. Mikva (1995), Professor David B. Wilkins (1997), Jerold S. Solovy (1998), Cheryl Niro (1999), Professor Richard C. Boldt (2000), Nancy L. Kaszak, Esquire (2001), and Father Robert Drinan (2002).
