NIU College of Law to Honor Alumni in the Judiciary

DeKalb-Dean Leroy Pernell of the NIU College of Law announces a reception that will be held to honor the College's alumni who are members of the judiciary.  The event is part of a year-long series of events that celebrate the College's 25th anniversary.

"For a law school as young as we are, we have a remarkable number of alumni who are members of the judiciary," Dean Pernell said.  "Each election year, we receive notice that another alumnus has become a judge."

Patricia Martin-Bishop, Presiding Judge of the Juvenile Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County and a 1985 alumna, has said, "The College of Law currently enjoys the reputation of having more alumni serve on the state bench per student population that any other law school."

Currently, 49 alumni are judges, serving in such diverse settings as Chicago; Reno, Nevada; and Honolulu, Hawaii.

The reception will be held on Tuesday, October 7, in the Chicago Athletic Association's Michigan Room.  It will begin at 5:30 p.m.
