BLSA Plans Events to Celebrate Black History Month
Everyone is invited to join the NIU Law Black Law Student Association (BLSA) for the following events in honor of Black History Month.
Brown v. Board of Education
BLSA will host a panel discussion on Wednesday, Feb. 19th from 12-1 p.m. in the Riley Courtroom located in Swen Parson Hall Room 170. In acknowledgment of the 60th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education, the discussion will focus on discrimination and inclusion of minorities, then and now. Panelists include Professor Robert Jones, Professor Yolanda King, and Professor Alan Boudreau. Food will be provided.
Table Talk with BLSA: Diversity and More
BLSA will host a student panel discussion on Wednesday, February 26th from 12-1 p.m. in the Riley Courtroom located in Swen Parson Hall Room 170. The program will feature a recent short, but powerful video made by UCLA Law students of color discussing their experiences of being among only 33 students of color out of 1,100 students. Following the video, the panelists will describe their own experiences as students of color and take questions from the audience. Refreshments will be served.
Line Dancing with BLSA
Line dancing with BLSA will take place on Thursday, Feb. 27th from 6:30-9 pm in the Marshall Gallery. BLSA members will be teaching popular line dances including the cupid shuffle, biker’s shuffle, and the wobble. Join us for a fun event to get the student body movin' and groovin'. Refreshments will be provided.
