Adjunct Professors Cain and Schafer Win Murder Case

NIU College of Law adjunct Trial Advocacy professors Dan Cain and Debra Schafer successfully defended a client accused of murder in Winnebago County.  The verdict came down on July 30, 2013 and was detailed in an article by Jeff Kolkey in the July 31 edition of the Rockford Register Star.

The defendant, Isaac Jaimes, had been accused of 14 charges in connection with the May 27, 2013 murder of DeMarkis Robinson in Rockford, IL.  Jaimes was arrested, charged and then gave a videotaped confession, but Cain and Schafer argued that the confession was obtained improperly through coercion.  Jaimes was acquitted and released more than three years after his initial arrest.
