Professor King Sits on Panel Discussing Innovative Teaching of IP Law

Professor Yolanda King was a panelist at the First Annual Mosaic Conference: Diverse Voices in IP Scholarship on Sunday, November 16, 2014. The conference took place from November 14-16 at Marquette University Law School in Milwaukee, WI. The panel was entitled "Teaching Intellectual Property from a Progressive Perspective." Professor King discussed incorporation of African American guest speakers into her Entertainment Law course.

"This approach provides unique perspectives to my students that they would not otherwise learn from the casebooks or other non-minority guest speakers," Professor King says. "In addition, these guest speakers not only reveal the importance of diversity and inclusion in the entertainment industry but also open my students' eyes to different communities and cultures."

Professor King Gives Intellectual Property Law Presentation

Professor Yolanda King continues to advance her groundbreaking study of tattoos and intellectual property law. She presented her article "The Enforcement Challenges for Tattoo Copyrights" to the DuPage County Bar Association on Wednesday, November 12, 2014.

Professor Yolanda King and Professor John Walton presented a talk entitled "Patents and Copyrights" at the Joseph F. Glidden Homestead & Historical Center in DeKalb, IL on Sunday, September 28, 2014.

Professor Yolanda King Attends Legal Conference

On April 4-5, 2014, Professor Yolanda King attended the 24th Annual Meeting of the Midwestern People of Color Legal Scholarship Conference at Indiana Tech Law School in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

Professor King Speaking on Continuing Issues in Intellectual Property

Professor Yolanda King has been very active recently in presenting her scholarly work on the subject of intellectual property law as it pertains to tattoos.  She presented her article "The Enforcement Challenges for Tattoo Copyrights" at the Chicago Junior Faculty Workshop at Valparaiso University's Chicago location on Friday, February 7, 2014.

Additionally, Professor King will present her article "The Challenges 'Facing' Copyright Protection for Tattoos" to the DuPage County Bar Association on Tuesday, February 18.

Professor King Presents on Intellectual Property Matters

Professor Yolanda King presented her work-in-progress The Enforcement Challenges for Tattoos Copyrights at the 2013 Intellectual Property Scholars Conference, held at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law of Yeshiva University, on August 8, 2013.

Professor Yolanda King Serves on Legal Careers Panel

Professor Yolanda King served as a panelist on "Careers in the Law" at Walter Payton College Prep on April 25, 2013.  She discussed her career as an intellectual property attorney in Chicago and the transition from practice to law teaching.

Professor King Presents at Central States Conference

Professor Yolanda King presented her work-in-progress The Challenges "Facing" Copyright Protection for Tattoos at the Central States Law Schools Association's 2012 Annual Conference, held at the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law on October 20, 2012.

Professor Yolanda King Honored as Outstanding Professor of the Year

On June 8, 2012, Professor Yolanda King received the Outstanding Professor of the Year Award from the NIU College of Law Alumni Council.  She was presented with her award during the 8th Annual NIU Law Golf Outing and Awards Dinner. Professor King was honored for her devotion to the advancement of the law school and her outstanding commitment to enriching the lives of those in the NIU Law community.

Professor Yolanda King Speaks at National Summit of Black Women Lawyers

On April 13, 2012, Professor Yolanda King participated in a panel as part of the Black Women Lawyers' Association of Greater Chicago's 2012 National Summit of Black Women Lawyers. The Summit was entitled "Redefining Our Journey," and took place at the Hyatt Regency Chicago on the Riverwalk. The event was in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of BWLA.  Professor King was a member of BWLA during her legal practice. She was part of a panel on pursuing academic appointments.
