Professor Vaughn Conducts Training on Compensation Program
On April 15, 2013, Clinical Assistant Professor Wendy Vaughn conducted an in-service training at Remedies Renewing Lives, Inc. in Rockford, Illinois. Professor Vaughn's presentation provided Remedies' counselors and staff with an overview of the Illinois Crime Victim's Compensation Program, information regarding their clients' eligibility for the program, and suggestions for how advocates can assist their clients to successfully navigate the application process and receive compensation for losses suffered as a result of a violent crime.
Professor Wendy Vaughn Teaches CLE Session
On February 18, 2013, Clinical Assistant Professor Vaughn provided Continuing Legal Education for the Winnebago County Bar Association's Guardian ad Litem Training. Professor Vaughn presented on the topics of "Levels of Violence" and on "Mediation in Family Law Cases Involving Domestic Violence." Vaughn's presentation fulfilled the 17th Judicial Circuit's Local Rule 14.06 requiring that all attorneys appointed to serve as guardians ad litem, child representatives, and attorneys for children receive training in domestic violence every two years.
Professor Vaughn Quoted in Chicago Daily Law Bulletin
The January 25, 2013 issue of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin featured an article by Jerry Crimmins detailing the potentially groundbreaking domestic violence case recently litigated by Professor Lawrence Schlam. The article features quotes from Schlam as well as Professor Wendy Vaughn of the NIU Law civil justice clinic. As part of the case, Professor Schlam obtained an order establishing, for the first time in Illinois, implied standing of domestic violence victims to intervene directly in the criminal proceedings to enforce their rights.
Clinical Assistant Professor Vaughn Re-Elected as President of Board of Directors for PSLS
On November 10, 2012, the Board of Directors of Prairie State Legal Services re-elected Clinical Assistant Professor Wendy Vaughn to a second term as President of the Board of Directors. Professor Vaughn will serve for an additional three years. Professor Vaughn was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2008 and elected to her first term as President of the Board of Directors in 2010.
Professor Wendy Vaughn Appointed CLE Coordinator
On April 30, 2012, Clinical Assistant Professor Wendy Vaughn was appointed CLE Coordinator by the CLE Subcommittee of the Illinois State Bar Association's Standing Committee on Delivery of Legal Services. As CLE Coordinator, Ms. Vaughn will work with the Standing Committee on Delivery of Legal Services and the CLE Subcommittee to develop continuing legal education programs and will serve as a liaison to the ISBA CLE Committee regarding scheduling, content, faculty, and approval. In honor of Pro Bono Week, Ms. Vaughn and the CLE Subcommittee are planning a day long CLE program in Bloomington, Illinois on Friday, October 26, 2012.
Professor Wendy Vaughn Speaks on Legal Protection for Children
Professor Vaughn gave a presentation on April 4, 2012 for the 17th Judicial Circuit Family Violence Coordinating Council. This is the second such presentation that she has given this year. The first presentation was on February 29, 2012. Because the presentation was so well attended and there were not enough spots for all that were interested, Professor Vaughn was asked to give the talk a second time.
Professor Wendy Vaughn Appointed to ISBA Committee
As of April 3, 2012, Professor Vaughn has been appointed by Illinois State Bar Association President-Elect John E. Thies to the 2012-2013 ISBA Standing Committee on Delivery of Legal Services. This is a "re-appointment." Professor Vaughn was first appointed to this Standing Committee in 2009-2010 and has been reappointed each year since that time.
Professor Wendy Vaughn Representing Winnebago County for Legal Services
On February 28, 2012 the Governing Body of the Winnebago County Bar Association appointed Professor Vaughn to another term as an attorney member representing Winnebago County to the Prairie State Legal Services Board of Directors. She is currently serving as the President of Prairie State's Board of Directors until 2013.
