Professor Cain Presents to WCBA

On April 26, 2013, Clinical Associate Professor Paul J. Cain presented on the topic “Expungement and Sealing of Criminal Records” for the Winnebago County Bar Association Criminal Law Section Continuing Legal Education program. Professor Cain presented on how to expunge and seal both adult and juvenile criminal records, request clemency through the Prisoner Review Board and Governor’s Office, and obtain certificates of rehabilitation.

Clinical Associate Professor Paul J. Cain Appointed to Criminal Justice Section Council

On April 22, 2013, Clinical Associate Professor Paul J. Cain was appointed by ISBA President-Elect Paula H. Holderman to the ISBA Criminal Justice Section Council. The mission of ISBA Criminal Justice Section is to work for a system of criminal justice that fairly protects the accused, the accuser, and the public in general; to seek or oppose change, as considered appropriate, by legislative activity, recommendations on court rules and recommendations to agencies; and to educate and inform lawyers and the general public through newsletters, seminars and other appropriate channels of communication. The Council provides leadership to the more than 800 ISBA members of the Criminal Justice Section as well as continuing legal education programs and a newsletter.

Clinical Associate Professor Paul J. Cain Elected to Board of Directors of the Illinois Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys

Clinical Associate Professor Paul J. Cain has been elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers for a term of three years commencing November 10, 2012. The Illinois Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (IACDL) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to defending the rights of all persons as guaranteed by the United States’ Constitution. Its membership consists of private criminal defense lawyers and public defenders throughout the State of Illinois. The mission of IACDL is to preserve the adversary system of justice; to maintain and foster independent and able criminal defense lawyers and to ensure due process for persons accused of crimes. In addition to serving on the Board, Prof. Cain will chair the Law Professor Committee and the Juvenile Law Committee of the IACDL.

Professor Paul Cain Quoted in Television Story on New Juvenile Justice Clinic

On October 3, 2012, Clinical Associate Professor Paul Cain appeared in a report by WIFR-TV in Rockford, Illinois.  The report detailed the NIU College of Law's newly-opened Juvenile Justice Clinic, which Cain coordinates, and the efforts of its students to help curb overcrowding in the Winnebago County juvenile detention center.  The clinic began operating out of the Zeke Giorgi Legal Clinic building in Rockford this fall.
