Race NIjUdicata: NIU College of Law 5K Run/Walk & BBQ

With the summer months right around the corner, the NIU College of Law is encouraging all of its students, faculty and alumni to get their running shoes out and stretch those legs, because it is time to hit the road!  Race NIjUdicata, the law school's first annual 5K Run/Walk, will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the NIU College of Law, Swen Parson Hall. 

Inspired by our own Dean Jennifer Rosato, an avid runner in her own right, we are looking for runners, volunteers and sponsors for this exciting inaugural event.  Prizes will be awarded in several categories, and all proceeds for the event will go toward the NIU Law $25,000 Challenge

And at race's end, all are welcome to join us for the first great BBQ of the season outside of Swen Parson Hall.  Be sure to sign up and join us!


Entrance Costs

  • Adults: $25
  • NIU students:  $20
  • Teams of 5 (or more):  $15 per person
  • Children under 12:  $10
  • All race day registration (except children): $30

BBQ lunch by Inboden's and event t-shirt are included in registration cost.  Must register by April 7 to guarantee receipt of t-shirt.

Registration

Registration and packet pick-up will be available on Friday, April 23 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the College of Law in the Marshall Gallery.  On Saturday, April 24, registration will begin at 8 a.m.  There will be a table for pre-registered participants and another table for on-site registration.  Registration will end at 9:40 a.m. 


 

Schedule

  • Race time: 10 a.m. There is a course cap time of 1 hour.
  • Awards: Announced at end of race.
  • BBQ: 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Course

The course map can be found at this link.  A water station will be a little over a mile into the course.


Sponsorship Costs

  • Platinum Sponsorship: $1,000 or more
  • Gold Sponsorship: $500 – 999
  • Silver Sponsorship: $250 – 499
  • Bronze Sponsorship: $100 – 249

Volunteers

Volunteers are needed for all of the following duties:

  • Race Day registration
  • Packet, shirt, award and refreshment distribution
  • Results running
  • Outdoor staging and/or course set-up
  • Mile timing
  • Parking and/or traffic control
  • Clean-up and striking after the event

BBQ

Food prepared by Inboden’s will be available immediately as you finish the race.  The menu includes chicken breasts, burgers, brats, hot dogs, veggie burgers, fruit salad, chips, and drinks.


Raffle

As you check-in, you will be entered into our raffle.  The raffle will take place between 11-11:30 a.m. as we are waiting for participants to return and are calculating results.


Awards

The Awards ceremony is anticipated to begin no later than 11:30 a.m.  Award categories include:

  • Top overall male/female
  • Top 3 finishers in each age division: 14 and under; 15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70+
  • Top NIU Law alumni finisher male/female
  • Top NIU Law student finisher male/female
  • Top team finish
  • Dean’s Team Challenge -- A 5-person team of Dean Jennifer Rosato, Professor Mark Cordes, Professor Robert Jones, Norden Gilbert, and Heather Johnson (’02) will average their finish times; any 5-person team who can beat that mark wins a special prize!

Proceeds

All proceeds from the 5K Run/Walk will go towards the NIU Law $25,000 Challenge.

Parking
