Shannon Powell
About Shannon: I’m a first generation college student, and I’m going to law school because I’m passionate about protecting constitutional rights.
Previous Legal and/or Professional Experience: I wrote my senior thesis about the regional development of married women’s property law in the United States, and I took several constitutional law classes as an undergraduate. I also travelled to Chile to study human rights abuses.
What activities are you involved in? I enjoy studying languages and literature. In undergrad I was the President of the Spanish Club and a member of the Editorial Board of the college literary magazine. I also love to travel and organize public poetry readings.
Why did you choose NIU Law? I chose NIU Law for its affordability and its proximity to my home. NIU Law also appealed to me because of its efforts to expand access to legal education and because of its diversity.
