Jennifer Ohlrich
About Jennifer: I am thrilled to be realizing my dream of studying law and am very eager to begin my career as a legal professional. I believe that a lawyer has an important role, one in which I will be able to truly help people and fight for justice in many different arenas. I look forward to using my education to make a difference.
Previous Legal and/or Professional Experience: I have worked as a legal secretary and as a paralegal at several Milwaukee-area law firms: those firms ranged in specialties from estate law to criminal defense. I was also given the opportunity to intern at the Milwaukee County Courthouse in their self-help legal services center, where I assisted people with filling out forms in divorce cases, child support cases, custody cases, and many other civil and legal matters.
I also have a strong interest in the medical field. I volunteer as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and have worked in the Emergency Department for five years. I find emergency medicine to be extremely interesting, and helping people at some of their worst moments is tremendously rewarding; I find both the legal and medical fields have that in common.
What do you like the most about being at NIU Law? What I like most about NIU Law is being part of a family. From the moment I stepped foot on campus, I knew that I was somewhere where people, both students and staff, cared about one another. It is a very supportive atmosphere.
