Frederick Malayter
About Frederick: I was a police officer for almost twenty-seven years in the Village of Woodridge. After a while, I decided I wanted to do something different, because I was too young to retire but too old to continue doing street police work. In the past, I enjoyed putting together cases for prosecutors, so I looked to law school. I knew that I wanted to stay involved in the criminal justice system and work at the courtroom level.
Why did you choose NIU Law? I chose NIU because the tuition is substantially lower than that of private law schools the area. I also liked its location in the Western suburbs. After speaking with some alumni from the program, I realized that the attitude here is very friendly and not one of hostile competition.
