About Bailey: I am from Aurora, Illinois, and am the oldest of four children. I attended Charis Bible College after getting my undergraduate degree, and I completed a two-year certificate of ministry. My family owns a café in downtown Aurora, and I am committed to seeing Aurora revitalized. I enjoy politics, fitness, planning events that unify communities, and promoting organizations about which I am passionate.
Previous Legal and/or Professional Experience: Prior to law school, I interned for the Porter County Prosecutor, for Congressman Randy Hultgren, and for Senator Richard Lugar. The summer after my 1L year, I interned with Chief Judge Holderman of the Northern District of Illinois. During the spring semester of my 2L year, I did an externship for the City of Naperville Corporate Council. The summer after my 2L year, I did an externship for credit using my 711 license with the Kane County Public Defender’s Office. I also worked as a law clerk for Adler, Murphy, McQuillen in Chicago, which is a civil defense firm that does aviation law.
What activities are you involved in? I am the Editor-in-Chief of the NIU Law Review, and I am also very involved in the Hesed House in Aurora. There was a huge legal deficit in Aurora and the new partnership between NIU Law and the Hesed House is going to address that deficit head-on.
Why did you choose NIU Law? NIU was my first choice for law school. I did a ton of research, and it stood out as an institution that provides a stellar education, while considering the whole person and equipping that person for true service. I’m committed to my community so I was thrilled to be able to access this high level of education while maintaining ties to Aurora.
