About Alexis: In college, I worked as a tutor for after school programs such as the Boys and Girls Club of Lake County and the Teen Reach Program at the Chicago Math and Science Academy. After law school, I plan to take the Illinois state bar exam, stay in the Waukegan area and work at the State’s Attorney’s Office.
Previous Legal and/or Professional Experience: For the past two years, I have worked as a legal assistant at Riewer & Collins, LLC. It’s a family law firm in Lake Forest, Illinois under the direction of my mentor, a former Assistant State's Attorney in Lake County who worked in the Children's Advocacy Center for a few years before becoming a Guardian Ad Litem.
Why did you choose NIU Law? My experience as a tutor and mentoring under Ms. Collins fuel my passion to graduate from law school and advocate for children and abuse victims upon becoming an attorney. NIU Law is helping me realize these goals.
What activities are you involved in? I am the president of LLSA (Latino Law Student Association). I am the secretary of the Federalist Society. I participated in the Trial Advocacy competition and the Moot Court Competition. I also volunteer with high school students, working with them on social justice issues for Street Law.
