NIU Law and the NIU College of Business offer a simultaneous enrollment option, which permits students to earn a J.D. and an M.B.A. Students must be separately admitted to both the M.B.A. and the J.D. programs.
Students who have completed all Phase I requirements in the College of Business prior to commencement of their J.D. and M.B.A. degrees can complete both degrees in three years and two summers. If not, the program will generally take 4 to 5 years. The College of Business website has a list of Phase I requirements. With approval of the associate dean of NIU Law and the student’s academic advisor in the College of Business, up to 9 credit hours of M.B.A. course credit may count towards the 90 hour J.D. requirement, and up to 9 credit hours of Law courses may count toward the M.B. A. 30 hour Phase II requirement. A typical program for a student in the simultaneous degree program who has completed the Business Phase I requirements is seen below.
