Students may choose to directly experience the practice of law in the “hands on” settings afforded by the Clinical Experiences and Externship Programs. Students who have been certified as a “Senior Law Student” pursuant to Illinois Supreme Court Rule 711 (requiring completion of three-fifths of the credits required for graduation) have the opportunity to experience the practice of law in a well-supervised setting that strives to help students make the transition from classroom to courtroom
These opportunities are offered through the College of Law's Zeke Giorgi Legal Clinic in Rockford, as well through other settings. The Zeke Giorgi Legal Clinic is a recent addition to the College of Law. Named in honor of Edolo “Zeke” Giorgi, a member of the Illinois House of Representative for the 67th District from 1965 until his death in 1993, the Clinic stands as tribute to Zeke’s legislative efforts on behalf of young people, education, and his local constituency. The Giorgi Clinic provides high quality representation to persons who would otherwise not be able to obtain it.
