664 Legislation (2)

This course will equip students with the basic tools for handling statutes and regulations across many different substantive areas of law and enable students to understand the context in which these sources of law are made. As such, the course will examine the nature of both the state and federal legislative process, the place of the legislature in the governmental process, stimuli of legislative activity, composition of legislature, legislative power of investigation, legislative organization and procedure, and statutory interpretation. The course will focus on particular statutes from different areas, but in a manner intended to uncover the legislative process and intent rather than the particular legal rules put forth in the statute.
