Focus on the labor arbitration process against a background overview of labor contract administration generally in both the public and private sector. The relevant literature governing the "common law of the shop" is explored as well as several decades of evolving experience under labor arbitration regimes. The philosophical and legal foundations of arbitration are discussed as background to the actual workings of the arbitration process. The relationship of arbitration to courts and administrative agencies in both public and private sector are also covered.
Prerequisite: Employment Law (623) or Labor Law (670)
This is an elective course. Most, though not all, electives are offered each year. Students may expect to have at least one opportunity to subscribe to all electives at some time in their three years in the college.
