Designed to introduce students to some of the legal doctrines, rules and principles relied upon to both structure transactions and resolve disputes in the newly developing area of electronic commerce. Contract and tort issues relating to Internet business will be discussed. Trademark and consumer protection issues associated with electronic transactions will be reviewed. Jurisdictional concerns, including choice of law, forum selection and arbitration agreements will also be examined. Additionally, ethical and privacy rights issues, as they arise in a variety of electronic media contexts, will be addressed.
This is an elective course. Most, though not all, electives are offered each year. Students may expect to have at least one opportunity to subscribe to all electives at some time in their three years in the college.
