Louis G. Apostol is the Executive Director for the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board with offices in Des Plaines and Springfield. As Executive Director, he is responsible for the management and adjudication of all residential, commercial, industrial and farm property tax appeals in Illinois. He has been a practicing lawyer in Illinois for 29 years and was a partner in several large law firms in Chicago specializing in real property, tax, finance, banking, corporate and government law. He has also served as Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel with several corporations in Illinois.
Prior to his tenure as Executive Director, he was Commissioner to the Illinois Court of Claims for 5 years, hearing complaints against the State of Illinois in contract and tort law. He also served as Public Administrator of Cook County for 12 years overseeing the administration of over 2,500 probate cases. He currently is a member of the Chicago Sister Cities International Program as an appointee of Mayor Daley. He also serves as Chair of the Attorney's Advisory Committee for the Clerk of the Circuit Court in Cook County.
Mr. Apostol currently serves as the President of the Hellenic Foundation in Illinois and is a member of the Board of Directors of the United Hellenic American Congress and UHAC Publications. He received his B.A. from Elmhurst College, M.B.A. from NIU College of Business and J.D. from NIU College of Law. He is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois, U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit, U.S. Tax Court, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, U.S. Court of Claims, U.S. Court of Military Appeals and U.S. Court of Customs and Patent Appeals.
He is a member of the American Bar Association, Illinois Bar Association and Chicago Bar Association, having served as Chair, Vice Chair and Legislative Liaison to various committees. In 1997, he received the "Attorney of the Year Award" from the Hellenic Bar Association. In 1998, he received the "Distinguished Service Award" from the NIU College of Law. In 2003, he received the "Community Service Award" from the Association Forum of Chicago. In 2004 and 2005, he was featured on the "Best Lawyers in America - Sky Radio Program" with Forbes Magazine. He is a frequent speaker at Bar Associations and Public Interest groups nationwide.
