Jane Hird Mitton currently serves as an associate judge in DuPage County, where she presides in the Misdemeanor Division. Prior to serving on the bench, Judge Mitton was a civil litigation supervisor under DuPage County State's Attorneys James E. Ryan and Anthony M. Peccarelli. She was formerly associated with the Law Offices of Robert V. Gildo, Ltd., in Wheaton, Illinois. Judge Mitton also has worked as an assistant state's attorney for Dupage County in the Criminal Division.
Judge Mitton is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, DuPage County Bar Association, and the Wisconsin State Bar Association. She is licensed to practice before the Illinois Supreme Court, Federal District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the Wisconsin Supreme Court. She received her law degree from NIU Law in 1983. In 2007, she received the NIU Law Outstanding Service Award for her generous support of the college's programs and students.
