Biography

Cherilyn Murer is the founder and President of Murer Consultants, Inc., and a recognized expert in the healthcare field, in particular for the development of post acute facilities and programs.  She has created a nationally recognized legal-based healthcare firm.  Murer Consultants has provided regulatory, financial and operational counsel to more than 400 clients in 42 states over the past 24 years since its foundation in 1985.

In May 2005, Ms. Murer received a gubernatorial appointment, with Senate confirmation, to a 6-year term to the Northern Illinois University Board of Trustees; she was elected Chairman of the Board in 2007.  Ms. Murer has developed specialized expertise in proton therapy Chair of the Northern Illinois Proton Therapy and Research Center; a project in conjunction with Fermilab and Argonne National Laboratory.  In addition, Ms. Murer chairs NIU Legislative and Audit and serves on its Finance and Academic Affairs Committees.  In September 2007, Ms. Murer was selected by the University to present “Conversation with a CEO”; the first in NIU’s 2007-08 Annual Executive Speaker Series Presentations.  In January 2002, Ms. Murer was appointed to the Northern Illinois University Law School’s prestigious Board of Visitors and was honored with its 2003 College of Law Distinguished Alumni Award.  In August 2009, Ms. Murer was honored by the NIU College of Engineering and Engineering Technology for her devotion and service in pursuing the goals of the CEET.

Ms. Murer has co-authored four books published by McGraw Hill with a fifth by CCH, and has been a columnist for Rehab Management Magazine since 1993.  She holds a Juris Doctorate Degree with honors from Northern Illinois University and previously served as Director of Rehabilitation Medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.  She has served on national and international commissions, Presidential task forces, and holds an appointment on the faculty of University of Illinois College of Medicine, Chicago, as Clinical Assistant Professor of Law. 

Ms. Murer assists her nationwide client base, of hospitals and health systems, navigate federal and state regulatory waters in pursuit of cost efficient quality healthcare reform.
