Biography

Cherilyn G. Murer, JD, CRA, is President and CEO of Murer Consultants, Inc., a legal-based healthcare management consulting firm.   Founded in 1985, Murer Consultants offers a wide range of consultative services, including the design and development of health facilities, regulatory compliance oversight, and reimbursement analysis for all venues of care. Understanding that healthcare is a complex integration of medical, social, economic, legal and government issues, the firm utilizes a unique combination of expertise to address operational challenges with pragmatic recommendations and strategies. Murer Consultants has established relationships with more than 600 clients in 42 U.S. states and a number of foreign nations, including Canada, the Netherlands and Belgium.

Ms. Murer currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Northern Illinois University, a gubernatorial appointment received in 2005.  She was chair of the NIU Board from 2007 to 2009.  Ms. Murer also holds an appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. She has been a columnist for Rehab Management Magazine since 1993 and sits on a number of advisory boards.  In February 2010, Ms. Murer was inducted into the Chicago Area Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame and in April 2010 she received the Northern Illinois University Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award.

Over the last 25 years, Cherilyn Murer has distinguished herself as an active voice in the advancement of quality, cost-effective healthcare. Ms. Murer received a juris doctor with honors from Northern Illinois University and has coupled her background in law with her previous operational experience as the Director of Rehabilitation Medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Ms. Murer is a lecturer and educator whose focus is on helping her clients navigate through the complex regulatory, strategic and financial issues facing healthcare providers today.

Ms. Murer has co-authored five books on a variety of healthcare topics, including effective case management, post-acute care reimbursement, provider-based status, compliance audits and medical records management. A sixth book, The Case Management Workbook – Defining the Role of Physicians, Nurses and Case Managers, will be published in the Spring of 2011.
