Updates for Fall 2024 Admitted Students
As you may be aware, the Department of Education is experiencing delays as it works to resolve a variety of FAFSA issues. NIU has slowly started to receive ISIRs (Institutional Student Information Records) from the Department of Education for students who indicated NIU on their FAFSA form. We are testing and finalizing updates to our system to correctly import the ISIR data and to begin packaging student financial aid offers. We are committed to processing the data and calculating the aid offers as quickly as possible for our admitted students.
We'll send an email to your NIU email address once we process your FAFSA, and if additional information is required, we’ll request it through your MyNIU To-Do List.
Updates for Current NIU Students
The FAFSA form is now open for aid for the 2024-25 school year (July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025). We will share our updated timeline for distributing financial aid offers to returning students later this spring once we begin to receive FAFSA data and make the necessary adjustments to our systems. The 2024-25 FAFSA priority deadline for students who received MAP funds this academic year and who continue to meet all eligibility requirements is April 1, 2024.
The FAFSA form for 2023-24 school year (July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024) must be submitted by June 30, 2024.
Spring 2024 Financial Aid: For students enrolling in the spring 2024 semester, if you do not have any financial aid awarded or applied to your account, you need to call or come into the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office to discuss your account.
- Make sure you have a 2023-2024 FAFSA filed and NIU’s school code of 001737 listed.
- Make sure to check your MyNIU Tasks in case our office requests any additional documentation.
- You will receive an email notification to your NIU email when your financial aid offer is available.
Summer 2024 Financial Aid: For students enrolling in the summer 2024 semester, financial aid is typically awarded in May/June after you have enrolled at least half-time. Learn more about summer financial aid.
