Indoor Climbing at Vertical Endeavors / Glendale Heights, IL

Have you ever wanted to try rock climbing? Climbing is a great workout. The newest Vertical Endeavors facility is largest rock climbing gyms in the United States! This incredible gym offers more than 44,000 square feet of climbing surface. It includes bouldering areas, auto-belays, top ropes, and lead climbing. This trip has something for everyone from first-timers to experienced climbers. Included in the registration fee are leadership, equipment (harness and climbing shoes), transportation, and gym entry fee.  

Trip Level 1: Moderate physical conditioning is necessary, experience and technical knowledge is not required

Kayak Pool Workshop at NIU Gabel Hall Pool

This workshop will introduce you to basic kayaking skills, blending skill instruction with practice. During the 2-hour clinic you will learn how to fit a boat, wet-exit, reentry and rescue techniques as well as paddle strokes and bracing. Beginners and first timers are welcome.  Included in the registration fee is equipment (kayak, paddle, PFD) and hands-on instruction with a student instructor. (Min 3: Max 6)

Kayak Rock River / Oregon, IL

Do you want to spend your Saturday doing something fun? Join us on an exciting kayaking day-trip on the Rock River! Hone your paddling skills and take in the views along the scenic Castle Rock State Park, Lowden-Miller Forest, and the George B. Fell Nature Preserve.

Included in the registration fee is:

  • Lesson on the basics of paddling a kayak

Full Moon Hike at Afton Forest Preserve / DeKalb, IL

DeKalb is known for having some spectacular sunsets, but what about when the sun goes down? The nearby forests glisten and glow under the brightness of a full moon! Afton Forest Preserve, a nearby treasure, is home to native Illinois prairie plants, a wetland restoration area, and local wildlife qualifying it as the perfect spot for a scenic and blissful evening hike away from the streetlights.

Included in the registration fee is:

Cave at Maquoketa Caves State Park / Maquoketa, IA

Don’t quite have the time to go spelunking for an entire weekend? Try out our day cave trip! We’ll take you with us on a sweet day trip to Maquoketa Caves State Park where you can walk and crawl the rugged bluffs of Iowa and even make it back home in time for dinner. Our day will consist of light hiking to two of the best caves in the park and a delicious lunch!

Included in the registration fee is:

Hike at Starved Rock State Park / Oglesby, IL

“Toto, I have a feeling we’re not in Illinois anymore.” That’s right Dorothy, Starved Rock is home to many hiking trails, canyons with waterfalls, beautiful lookout points along the Illinois River, and extensive Native American history. You may feel like you’re not in Illinois anymore while enjoying all the colors of the fall rainbow from the rocky paths lining one of Illinois’ best state parks. Put some miles on your hiking boots and digest the amazing views experienced within Starved Rock State Park.
